BG Remover
FAQ

Questions & answers

How the app works, what happens to your photos, and what Pro changes.

How it works

How does BG Remover cut out the subject?

It uses Google ML Kit subject segmentation, running on your device. The model returns a confidence mask — a per-pixel estimate of what belongs to the subject — and the app composes your photo through that mask. Because it is a mask and not a rectangle, thin details like hair and fur survive the cut.

Does it work offline?

Yes. The segmentation model is downloaded once, the first time you use the app; after that the cutout, the editing and the export all run with no connection at all. Only ads and purchases need the internet.

Can I fine-tune the cutout?

Yes. In the refine screen, the brush, lasso and magic wand remove or restore any part of the mask, and the details tool brings back soft edges such as hair and fur. You can zoom to 6× with a loupe while you work.

Can it cut out several people in one photo?

Yes. When more than one subject is detected the app asks whether you want them merged into a single cutout or separated into independent layers you can move one by one.

Privacy

Are my photos uploaded to a server?

No. The app has no backend of any kind. Every step — detection, editing, export — happens on your phone, and no image or mask is ever transmitted.

Does the app read my photo gallery?

No. It never lists or scans your library. Photos arrive one at a time through the Android system picker, which grants access to that single file, and exports leave through the system save API. The app does not even declare the photo-read permissions.

Do I need an account?

No. There is no sign-up, no email and no cloud sync. Your projects are stored in the app’s private folder on the device.

What data does the app collect?

Anonymous usage and crash diagnostics through Firebase, plus advertising identifiers used by AdMob for ads, subject to the consent choice you make on first launch. Never your photos. The privacy policy sets out the details.

Who makes BG Remover?

BG Remover is developed and published by CodeurDivoire, based in Côte d’Ivoire. The app has no backend, so there is no company server your photos could ever reach.

Exports

Which formats can I export?

Transparent PNG when you need the alpha channel, JPG when you want a lighter file, and a WhatsApp-ready sticker. Resolutions go from Standard (1080 px) to HD (2160 px), and 4K (4320 px) with Pro.

How do I export without the watermark?

Go Pro to remove it for good, or watch a short ad in the export screen to remove it for a while.

Where are exported photos saved?

To your device gallery, through the Android media store, so they appear in your photo app like any other picture. You can also share an export directly to another app without saving it first.

Can I use my cutouts commercially?

Yes. The terms of service let you use the app for personal or commercial image editing, and claim no ownership of, and no licence over, the images you edit.

Pro & billing

What does Pro unlock?

No watermark, no ads, 4K export, portrait blur, all six studio scenes, ID photos and batch processing.

How much does Pro cost?

Prices are set per country in Google Play and are shown live inside the app, along with any free trial currently offered. That is why no figure is printed on this site.

Can I get a Pro feature without subscribing?

Yes. Each Pro feature can be unlocked on its own by watching a rewarded ad. One ad unlocks that one feature for a while — not the whole app.

How do I cancel?

From Google Play: Payments & subscriptions → BG Remover → Cancel. Pro stays active until the end of the period you have already paid for. Refunds are handled by Google Play under its own policy.

I bought Pro and it is not showing on my new phone.

Open the app with the same Google account and tap Restore in the paywall or in Settings. Your entitlement is tied to your Play account, not to the device.

Devices & languages

Which Android versions are supported?

Android 8.0 and later, with the cutout model delivered by Google Play services.

Which languages does the app speak?

Twenty, including English, French, Spanish, German, Portuguese, Chinese (simplified and traditional), Japanese, Korean, Arabic with full right-to-left layout, Hindi, Bengali, Russian, Indonesian, Turkish, Italian, Dutch, Swedish, Polish and Vietnamese.
