Every tool, and what it is actually for
BG Remover is a full editing session around one idea: separate the subject from the background, then do whatever you want with either half.
Automatic subject cutout
Google ML Kit subject segmentation runs on your device and returns a confidence mask, not a rough rectangle. That is what lets the edge follow hair, fur, fabric and glass instead of chopping through them.
- One tap from the photo to a finished cutout
- Several subjects detected: keep them as one cutout or split them into independent layers
- Import from your gallery, your camera, your files, or share a photo into the app from anywhere in Android
The background library
The background is a live setting, not a destructive paint. Swap it as many times as you like, and the subject is recomposed underneath every time.
- Transparent — the real thing, exported as PNG with a proper alpha channel
- Solid colours and six ready-made gradients
- Six studio scenes shot for portraits and products (two free, four Pro)
- Portrait blur that keeps your own background but pushes it out of focus (Pro)
- Any photo from your gallery, with its own blur amount
The refine studio
When a shot is genuinely hard — a chair leg through a fence, a white shirt on a white wall — you take over. Four tools share one dock, and every stroke is replayable, so nothing is destroyed while you work.
- Brush with adjustable size, hardness and stroke shape (curve, straight, ruler)
- Lasso for a crisp selection you cut in one gesture
- Magic wand that floods a region based on the photo itself
- Details mode, which brings back the finest edges — hair, fur, tulle
- Zoom up to 6× with a magnifying loupe so you can see the pixel you are tracing
- Erase and restore are the same brush, one switch apart
Crop, canvas and framing
Choose the shape your photo is headed for before you export it, and move the subject inside it. Nothing is cut for good — the crop is a setting you can reopen.
- Original, square, portrait, story and post ratios
- Rotate the source, crop the subject, or reframe the canvas — three different jobs, three separate edits
- Non-destructive: the full-resolution source stays on disk
Captions, drawings and imported elements
Your subject is one layer among several. Add captions, freehand sketches and extra cutouts, then reorder them freely — behind the subject, in front of it, wherever the composition needs them.
- Text layers with styles, kept as vectors and re-rendered at export resolution
- Freehand drawing with several nibs, colours and sizes
- Import an extra photo, cut it out too, and place it as an element
- Every layer can be moved, scaled, rotated and reordered
ID, passport and visa photos
A dedicated mode that starts from a detected face and frames it for you, on a neutral background at the exact size a form asks for.
- Automatic framing from face detection, with guides you can adjust by hand
- A flat list of formats, including the common passport and visa sizes
- Three regulation neutral backgrounds, plus a custom colour
- Export one photo, or a full print sheet laid out on a paper size, at 300 dpi
- JPG output, ready for photo labs and online forms
Batch processing
Pick a stack of photos, set the background, format and framing once, and let the queue run. Then adjust any single photo without touching the others.
- One shared set of settings applied to the whole queue
- Per-photo overrides for background, canvas ratio and subject framing
- A preview of any item before you commit the run
- Outputs are written together so you can share or save the whole batch at once
Export and share
The export is a fresh render from the full-resolution source — not an upscaled preview — so what you save is as sharp as the photo you started from.
- Transparent PNG, lighter JPG, or a WhatsApp-ready sticker
- Standard (1080 px), HD (2160 px) or 4K (4320 px, Pro)
- Save straight to your gallery or share to any app
- Watermark-free exports with Pro
Built for the phone it runs on
Large photos are handled in one pass at a time and the editing session works from a lightweight proxy of your source, so even a 48-megapixel photo stays smooth to edit. That is the reason the whole thing can stay on-device in the first place.
