A transparent PNG is an image whose background pixels are see-through, stored in the PNG format’s alpha channel. JPG has no alpha channel, so it cannot hold transparency. To make one on Android, cut out the subject in BG Remover, set the background to Transparent, then export as PNG. The checkerboard you see in the app is only how transparency is displayed — it is not part of the file.
Make a transparent PNG on Android

Open the photo
Tap New image and choose the picture from your library, camera or files. The subject is cut out automatically on the phone.

Check the cutout
Use Compare to see the original, and Refine to polish any edge — on a transparent background, a clean edge is what makes the result look professional.

Set the background to Transparent
In Background, choose Transparent. The checkerboard marks the area that will be see-through in the file.

Export as PNG
On the export screen, PNG is selected automatically for a transparent cutout, so the transparency is kept in the file.

Choose a size and save
Standard (1080 px) or HD (2160 px) for free, 4K (4320 px) with Pro. Save writes the file to your gallery, Share sends it straight to another app, Copy puts it on the clipboard.

Why does my PNG show a black or white background?
Many viewers and messaging apps do not display transparency. Some draw it as black, some as white, and some re-compress any image sent “as a photo” into a JPG, which throws the alpha channel away.
- To check the file, open it in an editor, a design app or a document: the background should take the colour of whatever is behind it.
- To send it intact through a messaging app, share it as a file or document rather than as a photo.

- Product images that sit cleanly on any page or banner colour.
- Slides, documents and posters — place a person or an object over your own layout.
- Design and video apps, where the cutout becomes a layer.

Getting a clean edge
Before exporting, zoom in on the edge in Refine. Use Details for hair and fur, the Brush at full hardness for the crisp outline of a product, and the Wand to remove a leftover patch of background in one tap.

How do I export a transparent PNG without the watermark?
Go Pro, or watch a short ad on the export screen to remove the watermark for a while.
Why is my transparent PNG file so large?
PNG is lossless, so a detailed 2160 px or 4K image weighs several megabytes. If you do not need transparency, a JPG with a background is much lighter.
Can I make a transparent PNG of a logo or a drawing?
Yes. In Refine, the Wand selects an area of even colour in one tap — ideal for clearing the plain background around a logo or a drawing.
Is the WhatsApp sticker export transparent?
